Haus Finds No. 004 — The Amber Dish
Some objects carry memories forward — quietly waiting for someone new to notice what made them worth keeping.
This dish was my grandmother's first, then my mother's. When I found it tucked away in her cabinet I had to pause. It was bold. Iridescent. Almost flashy in the best possible way.
But then the memories came rushing back.
My mother carried forward the mid-century hosting rituals taught by her own mother — special occasions meant fresh flowers on the table, small gifts thoughtfully wrapped, and little dishes filled with pastel mints, mixed nuts, and something sweet to share.
This dish fit right into that scene. And maybe it still does.

THE FIND
The Indiana Glass Lily Pons pattern — known for its textured sunflower and leaf design with an amber iridescent finish — was first introduced in the 1930s and reintroduced in the 1970s. Originally designed for a pickle and relish dish, pieces like this became a mid-century party table staple.
Its oblong shape and ridged side handles give it a distinctive silhouette, while the warm golden amber color shifts beautifully in the light — glowing from one angle and showing subtle rainbow-like iridescence from another. 
Style it in a MCM vignette. Fill it with chocolates, mints, or relishes. Let it hold jewelry on a vanity. However it lands in your space, it will hold the room.
