Some objects earn their place simply by understanding the assignment.
This little hound sat beside my mother’s kitchen sink for years, quietly acknowledging what everyone already knew: chores were chores, and there were usually better — and much more fun — things to do.
He never judged. He just kept watch, held the sponge, and looked appropriately miserable about the whole situation.
Best of all, he came with his own faux pearl teardrop — long before the crying emoji ever existed.
A tiny kitchen companion for anyone who has ever done what had to be done while wishing they were doing almost anything else.

THE FIND
This vintage ceramic sponge holder was made by Enesco Imports Japan and still retains its original foil label on the underside.
Finished in a rich brown glaze with hand-painted details, the long-eared hound wears a deeply sympathetic expression, complete with a faux pearl teardrop beneath one eye. Across the front, raised lettering says exactly what he is thinking:
“I Hate Housework.”
Designed to sit beside the sink and hold a sponge, he is equal parts practical object and comic relief — a small reminder that household chores have always gone down a little easier with someone nearby who understands.
